HAVE RAISED FUNDS FOR A RANGE OF RESTORATION PROJECTS
A Sculpted Sarcophagus Lid
WE LOVE ITALY 2024 raised funds for Museo Nazionale Romano which will be used to restore an unusual sarcophagus lid which bears the relief of a young woman. The artifact has been in the museum’s storerooms for many years, hidden from view, but – once restored – will be given a new place in the display rooms.
Etruscan Jewellery at Villa Giulia
The ancient items being restored thanks to WE LOVE ITALY 2023 include a necklace, dress ornaments, an ornate pin, a pendant and the twisted hairbands used by Faliscan ladies. These were part of the funeral goods found in the Tomba degli ‘Ori’ at Narce in the late 1800s, which are believed to have belonged to an aristocratic woman in the 7th century B.C..
Venerated Confraternity Statues
The 2022 event contributed to the crowdfunding campaign organised by the Confraternity of St. Mary of the Angels in Gallipoli, Puglia to restore four beloved statues. Displayed in niches flanking the altar, the Baroque-inspired modelling is a style typical of 17th century Neapolitan statuary and the work of Gaetano Patalano, then active in Salento.
Raphael at the Villa Farnesina
In 2020, Valentine’s Day was dedicated to one of Italy’s most famous sons – the painter Raffaello – in the year of his 500 anniversary. Guests came to celebrate in the splendid setting of Palazzo Dama – Pacifico Roma, while fundraising for the restoration of the Loggia di Galatea at Villa Farnesina.
La Certosa di Capri
Celebrated at the Hotel Excelsior on Via Veneto, the first event organized to celebrate Italy contributed to the crowdfunding campaign to help restore the medieval monastery of Capri. The funds were used for restoration interventions on the ancient foundation columns of the complex’s Small Cloister.
