Lorenza Mochi Onori
Lorenza Mochi Onori obtained a PhD in Modern Literature with a thesis in the History of Arts under the supervision of the renowned Prof. Giulio Carlo Argan. In 1978 she joined the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities where she held a position as a Supervisor and Art Historian. From 1982 to 2003 she served as Director of the National Gallery of Antique Art at Palazzo Barberini, Rome where she organized and directed major restoration projects, such as the ceiling fresco of Pietro da Cortona. During her tenure from 2013-2014, as head of the Superintendency for the Artistic and Ethno-anthropological Heritage of Le Marche she oversaw the acquisition of important artworks, fundamental to regional culture and that added to the completion of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche permanent collection.
From 2007-2008, she held an interim post as the Superintendent for the Historic Patrimony, Artisic and Ethno-anthropological of Bologna, Ferrara, Forli, Cesana, Ravenna and Rimini. From September 2009 to 2011, she was the acting Superintendent in Naples for the Historic, Artistic and Ethno-anthropological museum circuit for the city museums of Naples.
She later held the position of Regional Director of Cultural Heritage of the Marche until 2014. As Director of the National Gallery, Palazzo Barberini, Superintendent of the Marche and Naples she curated numerous exhibitions; L’Europe à Rome, Paris; Goya, Masterpieces of the eighteenth century, Parma; Cassiano dal Pozzo, Rome; La Fornarina, Rome and Milan; Gentile da Fabriano in Fabriano, and an exhibition on the works of Raffaello in Urbino. In addition, she has authored articles published in various scientific journals. She has drafted important scientific catalogues (National Gallery Catalogues, and the catolgue section on eighteenth century art).
She is a member of the Accademia Raffaello di Urbino, the Accademia Marchigiana of Sciences, Letters and Arts, an associate of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pesaro and the President of Scientific Evaluation Committee for LoveItaly!
Maria Letizia Conforto
Maria Letizia Conforto graduated in Architecture in Rome in 1967 and was a researcher at the Institute of Planning of the Faculty of Architecture of Sapienza University. She was one of the founders of the Metamorph Studio of Rome. In 1977 she became an architect for the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and directed restoration works in Lucca, Livorno and Volterra.
From 1980 she is design architect and director for the Archaeological Superintendence of Rome for which she directed several sites for the conservation of marble monuments like the Arch of Titus and the Arch of Costantine, excavation and restoration sites of archaeological areas like the Colosseum, the Caracalla Thermal Baths, the Balbi Crypt and the Tofei of Mario.
In 1990 she defined the preliminary project for the realization of the exhibition area inside the Colosseum. In the first 90s she wrote the project of the new sector of the Roman National Museum dedicated to Medieval Archaeology in Rome, to be realized in the buildings included in the monumental area of the Balbi Crypt.
At the end of the 90s she worked at the project to secure the visitors of the archaeological area of the Caracalla Thermal Baths, the realization of services for the public and the staff.
She held tasks of consultation for the restoration of materials and the reorganization of museums for the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities. For the Archaeological Superintendence of Rome she curated the Sectorial Plan for the archaeological assets for the valorization and the conservation of the archaeological heritage of Rome.
She collaborated with didactic and research activities on conservation at several cultural institutions.
From 1998 to 2007 she was professor at the Faculty of Architecture of Ferrara; from 2007 to 2010 she was professor at Tor Vergata – University of Rome.
Carlo Giantomassi & Donatella Zari
Carlo Giantomassi was born in Ancona, Italy, on 11 November 1942. Diploma from the Italian Central Restoration Institute (ICR), Rome, in 1966.
Donatella Zari, Pisa 22/05/1949 – 27/12/2016. In memory of our dear friend and restoration artist who was devoted to her work with great passion, professionalism, and love.
Carlo Giantomassi and Donatella Zari taught conservation and restoration in 1974/75 and 1975/76 in the Course for Cultural Heritage Maintenance Staff at Spoleto, and provided consultancies and lectures at the Botticino School of Conservation and Restoration; they have also given restoration seminars at the Rome School for Crafts and Restoration and at the UNESCO office in Venice.
They teach in the Mural Paintings Conservation course at ICCROM, as well as in the ICR professional development course on stone conservation. Carlo Giantomassi has given occasional lessons on painting technique at the University of Rome, Faculty of Letters, and at a Yale University course held at ICCROM. Moreover, both conservators have contributed papers to various meetings on conservation and restoration, including a conference on Michelangelo in Rome and another on mosaics in Ravenna.
They were speakers at a Conference organized by the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage and Activities on the theme of “Art in Tibet: to know, to act, to conserve.”
In 1979 they received the Italia Nostra Zanotti Bianco technico-scientific prize for restoration of the Pinturicchio frescos in Spello. They participated as teachers in the restoration course held by the Fundación S.ta Maria La Real – Aguillar de Campoo (Palencia) in 1998, and in the course on “Conservación y restauratión de bienes culturales” at the Instituto Andaluz del Patrimonio Historico in Seville in 2000.
In 2000 they were invited as consultants to take part in the Commission for the restoration of Luca Giordano’s Cason del Buen Retiro in the Prado National Museum in Madrid.
